About Spiti Valley
A high-altitude cold desert in Himachal Pradesh, Spiti is often called a little Tibet for its culture, monasteries, and stark landscapes. This route takes you from green valleys into the heart of the Trans-Himalaya.

- Key Monastery — the largest monastery in Spiti, perched above the valley.
- Postcard from Hikkim — send mail from one of the world’s highest post offices.
- Chandratal Lake — surreal high-altitude lake (access weather-dependent).
- Komic & Langza — among the highest inhabited villages; fossils and big-sky views near Langza Buddha.
Local Flavours to Try
- Sidu — steamed bread stuffed with walnut paste.
- Chha Gosht — spiced lamb in a curd-based gravy.
- Tudkiya Bhath — traditional spiced rice with local spices.
- Babru — Himachali stuffed fried bread.
Hidden Gems by TravelBoots
- Mud Village — quiet village at the end of Pin Valley; raw Himalayan vibes, fewer crowds.
- Pin Valley — less explored than main Spiti; wildlife including snow leopards (rare) and green pockets.

What to pack
Altitude & acclimatization
- Spiti sits at very high altitude; mild headache, breathlessness, or fatigue can happen. Tell your ride leader early if you feel unwell—rest, slow down, and use support oxygen if offered.
- Drink water regularly (avoid excess alcohol) and eat light, warm meals; dehydration worsens altitude discomfort.
- Take the first riding days easy—no racing or long hikes on arrival days so your body can adjust to thinner air.
- Sleep well, dress in layers, and avoid sleeping pills unless your doctor approves—they can mask worsening symptoms at altitude.
- Carry personal prescription medicines, basic headache relief, and any Diamox or similar only if prescribed by a physician—do not self-medicate.
- If symptoms are severe or persistent (e.g. confusion, walking difficulty, chest tightness), seek medical help immediately and follow the captain’s evacuation plan.
What to pack
- Layers: Thermal base layers, fleece or down mid-layer, and a windproof shell; temperatures swing sharply between sun, shade, and night.
- Hands & head: Insulated gloves, balaclava or warm cap, and sunglasses—the sun and cold wind are both strong at altitude.
- Feet: Sturdy, broken-in boots with ankle support for uneven ground; spare dry socks for camp and riding days.
- Rain & dust: Packable rain jacket and a neck gaiter or buff for dust on unpaved sections.
- Sun: High-SPF sunscreen, lip balm with SPF, and a wide-brim hat or cap under your helmet when off the bike.
- Riding & day use: Comfortable daypack, reusable water bottle, power bank, and small dry bag for electronics in wet weather.
- Documents & cash: Valid ID, permits if you carry copies, and some cash—ATMs and networks can be unreliable in remote stretches.
- Luggage: Prefer a backpack or duffel; rigid suitcases are hard to load on backup vehicles and may incur extra handling charges.
Follow these simple steps to reserve your trip with ease.
